I am a general education fourth grade teacher at an inner city public school. I have a zesty, exciting group of fourth graders entering my classroom in the 2019-2020 school year. I will have a mixture of students this upcoming school year. Most of my students will be general education students but others will be diverse learners as well. I work in a low socioeconomic community. My students come to school eager to learn but they don't always have the resources to jumpstart the school year.
Fourth graders are energetic and inquisitive learners.
They are visual learners and look to enhance their creativity in the classroom. My students are thirsty for knowledge yet there are circumstances beyond their control, like lack of funding, that hinders their creative stance. Even with that, I can't wait to see what this year brings to push their creativity while increasing their higher level thinking skills.
My students are in need of Post-it Easel Pads, Sharpies Flip Chart Markers, and Glue. We will utilize these materials to create an easy flow for reading instruction and writing activities to help them become prepared and organized for instruction at all times. The chart paper and markers are excellent resources to aid them in being visual learners and able to apply the skills that are taught.
It is essential for students to have visual aids throughout the class as a reflective tool, as well as, being able to use the charts during independent and cooperative learning opportunities in the classroom.
We will create a lot of interactive notebooks this upcoming school year. Due to the low socioeconomic background my families come from they tend to have a difficult time getting school supplies. The glue will benefit my students greatly because they will have to glue material in their interactive notebooks daily as a way to keep their notes organized.
Moreover, these resources are needed to enhance the instructional practice in my classroom. My students are consistently looking for ways to recall past lessons and focus on current ones. The chart paper will allow a way for them to reflect on the past ones while creating new ones. The Markers will enhance the presentation of the work they do as well as the ones we create together.
