Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When I said goodbye to my class on March 13, I told them all how much I would miss them and I would see them in 3 weeks. Our plan was to reconvene school on April 6, 2020 and I would have never imagined that would be our last day in our classroom. Our classroom was a safe haven. A chance for students to explore and learn in a no-risk environment. As a student centered classroom, my classroom was lively and students were excited to learn and strive for excellence.
Our school building may be closed, but my students and I have embarked on our distance learning adventure!
We are fortunate enough to be 1 to 1 with technology, and their student laptops are pivotal to distance learning. Our Google Classroom is our foundation for assignments and resources and we are thankful for our daily Zoom meetings that allow us to "see" one another. My students are resilient and I am amazed with their level of engagement and ability to adapt to all the changes that have been thrown their way in the last 6 weeks of the pandemic.
My Project
In order to help my learners continue to excel, I need proper tools and supplies to facilitate student learning. The materials requested will help me deliver my live and recorded lessons. While my home can't replace the classroom, I can continue to keep my students engaged with new learning. School closure will not stop me from helping my students learn the skills they need to be successful. It is essential I have the resources to help them grasp the concepts and skills they need to succeed next year.
Our school may be closed, but with the right supplies, I will continue to teach them the way they learn best: with written examples and anchor charts!
The Post-It easel pads are vital for my continued lessons. I have no wall space, so the chart paper I brought from my classroom is ineffective and my students are having a difficult time seeing what I write. Having the easel pads allows me to zoom with camera onto what I am writing. The grid easel pads will help me deliver area and perimeter math lessons. The small white board will help me most with small group or one on one instruction. The markers, pens and supplies will help me enhance my anchor charts and instruction by using different colors for emphasis.
The protractors, rulers and graph paper are needed by students for the next 6 weeks of distance math lessons. I will be making care packages and each student will receive graph paper, protractors and rulers (along with other pre-purchased items) to help them with our new math unit.
