This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a social worker in an all boys high school in Chicago, supporting students with disabilities and students who are at risk. As a school social worker, I work with students who need space to focus on their mental, and social-emotional health through talk therapy, art, mindfulness, etc.––in the safety of a school setting.

My Project

These materials will support social work services for students at a distance. During this time, therapy will be conducted virtually, and these supplies will be sent home with students to still engage and prioritize their own mental health. Supplies such as manipulatives, mindfulness workbooks, yoga mats, art supplies, etc. will allow students to have the tools they need to continue to grow in their health and goals, especially in this time of distance and isolation.

It is vitally important––now more than ever––that students with limited access and struggle with mental health concerns, have all that they need to be healthy and well.
