This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 6th-grade students are bright, eager to learn, and excited to come to school each day, so they can grow as much as they possibly can. They are curious, full of wonder, and excited about the world around them. I teach at a Title I school in North Carolina where 100 percent of our children receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, with over 40% of them coming from Hispanic families and/or being considered ESL/ELL.
Therefore, many of our students have limited resources outside of school, so the school may provide their only chance to experience enriching activities.
My Project
In order to to start the school year off on the right foot, my classroom needs to be stocked with the right supplies. In my Math class, we will be using interactive notebooks that the students will create. This method is effective by engaging the students and holding them responsible for their learning. Interactive notebooks are also proven to help students learning English as a second language.
Interactive notebooks are great visual tools for learning and studying.
However, they require a lot of consumable supplies such as glue, markers, and paper. With over 60 students that come through my classroom each day, these supplies don't last very long. With your help, we can start the year off right with the supplies we need.
