Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, determined, and amazing children. They love to move and to play. They enjoy school because they love learning in so many different ways. They are amazing because they show up to school with a smile on their faces no matter what their circumstances are at home! For many of my students, school is their safe haven.
As a teacher in a low-income urban area, my students face many challenges in and out of school.
Many of my students also speak another language at home but we use their bilingual capabilities to enhance their learning. They are determined to learn as much as they can so they can apply their education outside of school!
My Project
It's time to prepare for next year! This will be my second year teaching. The amount of money I spent on school supplies at the beginning of last year was way beyond what I had anticipated. I am hoping to get a little help with some of the basics.
Since I work in a low socioeconomic area, most of my students cannot afford to purchase the school supplies on our school supply list.
That meant that all the supplies in my classroom for the first few months of school were bought by myself. My students need the pencils to be able to do work. We need the sharpener so we can sharpen those pencils. We need a heavy duty stapler to staple our writing projects. The stickers help me reuse some of my notebooks from last year and the lanyards will be used for bathroom and hall passes. Although I love buying these kinds of things to keep my classroom functional, the cost of school supplies is much more than I can afford on my own.
