Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There are many great things going on at our school. Our school’s distinguished practice is health and fitness. We focus on many ways to incorporate activities to keep our bodies and minds healthy. This past school year, four schools competed in track and field. Several of our students placed and earned medals. This year, we brought music class to our school. Also, this is the second year that we are providing an after-school orchestra.

As a teacher of students who come from low-income families, I push them to persevere and be the best that they can be.

Living close to a tourist attraction, many of my students and their families are unable to go because they can’t afford it. Our school is a Title I school where the majority of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Some of my students are either homeless or live in motels or a crowded room. Some of my students are responsible for caring for their younger siblings as their parents work long hours. Whatever the circumstances may be, they come to school to learn.

My Project

I am requesting materials to help my six graders get a great start. My students come from low-income household where the focus is on paying the rent and food. Some of my students are either homeless or living in a crowded motel where focus is just getting by or food. Some of my students are responsible for taking care of their siblings.

Rather than stressing about getting school supplies, I would like to provide supplies to help my students start school with a positive mindset.

I am asking for items such as binders, dividers, highlighters, pencil boxes, scissors, and calculators. I am asking for a paper trimmer so we can cut construction paper for the in-class project.

School supplies should be the last thing my students worry about. I rather have them focus on the content than trying to find a pencil or having a binder. I want to give them tools to be successful.
