Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in Title I school in a highly poverty-stricken area of NYC. The students, predominantly Hispanic and Black, are burdened with more responsibilities than can be imagined, yet they come to school each day and try to learn the lessons in front of them. The students and their parents' lives are plagued with the harsh realities of life and poverty. Many times, the task of putting food on the table has to take precedence over school. This hardship can cause a lack of focus and create a stressor that makes it nearly impossible to harness the students' abilities.
My Project
These supplies are the necessities my students need to start the year on a good note. Many of my students families struggle to afford school supplies for their children. Being able to supply my students with what they need is a wonderful thing.
Having school supplies is a necessity for all students to succeed.
These supplies will be used by all students in math and ELA. The dry erase markers are used for our math work and we are always running out of erasers. These supplies will allow all of my students to have what they need to start the year on a good foot.
