Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students at our elementary school have superpowers! They are part of a dual language educational model which fosters skills in speaking, reading, and writing in both Spanish and English.
Students have an opportunity to apply the school's four core values, daily, so that at the end of the career, they can continue with their education and be successful, bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural citizens!
Our four core values are Be Respectful, Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Seek Wise People.
We have many working-class families that attend our school as well as many families who work at our neighboring research university, University of Colorado at Boulder. We serve over 50% free and reduced-price lunch families, and we are a Title I school.
Our students are the future! They have dreams of becoming pediatricians, police officers, teachers, and environmentalists!
My Project
We are more than halfway through our second grade year! We are learning a lot about subtraction, finding community inspiration through guest speakers, reading non-fiction texts about children changing the world, and helping to illustrate a local map. However, our crayons are running dull, our colored pencils need a good sharpening, and we have written so much math on our personal whiteboards that we need some black Expo markers to keep us running until the end of the year!
There's nothing like a fresh set of supplies to help us keep our classroom running smoothly!
We do a good job of putting the lids back on our markers, but sometimes, we just use them until they are ready to be replaced! We are at the point where we could use a crayon and colored pencil sharpener to give our supplies a refresh! We also do community jobs at the end of the day to keep our classroom sparkling, but we are out of Expo whiteboard cleaner!
