My fifth graders are one of a kind. We try not to let "Title 1" define us even though the daily struggle of simplistic things are with them. We are a very diverse family and enjoy ourselves when we are together.
They are thoughtful, curious, and eager to learn.
My kids don't always have the privilege of being kids. Many of my students have no choice but to grow up and take responsibility of things some adults do not have to face. I try to make school their getaway and their safe place. When they come to my room, I want them to feel loved and invited.
My Project
Being at Title 1 school, my students come in to a new room in August with many worries. My job as their teacher is to put those worries away and keep things simple. We need an electric sharpener, electric stapler, pens, and a starter pack of pencils!
It's the little things that make the biggest difference!
I do not want my students getting off of the bus worrying about what will happen when they do not have something as basic as a pencil. The poverty level is very high in our area and money is tight in their houses. This project will truly make a difference in our classroom and will be setting expectations for the year to work hard and do our best.
