As a fourth-year teacher, I am still creating my perfect classroom. In 5th grade, we departmentalize, so I teach math to 80 kids. In our classroom, we value community, friendship, and hard work. We are always working to build on these values through morning meetings.
Many of the students in my class have a parent that serves in the military.
These men and women who serve our country, along with their family members, deserve the best education for their children.
Coming into my fourth year, I have limited supplies available. Some items are out of my grasp. I have big ideas and want to pass them all on to my kids. I can't wait to share with them all we can accomplish and with your help, I can make their experience even better.
My Project
To run a successful classroom, it takes a lot of supplies. Sometimes we take for granted the little things that keep it going. Often big things like furniture, rugs, and technology are the focus.
Little things can make a big difference in the classroom.
We use some things every day and it can be hard to replace them. My students use whiteboards for math and our erasers are starting to wear out. we desperately need replacements.
In math, as you can imagine, we go through a lot of pencils. Our pencil sharpener runs constantly. Having a heavy-duty sharpener can make life in 5th grade so much easier.
Place value is a tricky subject in math, it feeds into every aspect of math and is very important. Every year we start with place value. Having charts that can be written on, wiped off, and reused would be a huge help to my students.
After I correct student papers, I place a small sticker to show them that I have seen it and checked it off. If a student gets 100% on a test or quiz, I give them a larger sticker. Students love to collect these stickers. With 80 students, they do not last long. I need to refill my collection.
