Help me give my students the supplies we need to make it to the end of the year. The notebooks and markers are for our cursive practice and Finding Langston is for our Harlem Renaissance Unit.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a collected group of movers, thinkers, ponderers, and academic explorers. They all have bright minds and are ready to take their own personal experiences and share them with the outside world. They are at the age where they are realizing just how big the world is and what exactly their place is. This becomes more difficult living in a city that many have pushed aside and labeled as a ghetto. Many of them are just finding their voices and refuse to allow society to label them or shut them out.
They all understand the importance of college readiness and jump at any chance of being able to talk with professors or college students.
During the few projects we have had with our local university, I am often told of how enthusiastic our students are to become involved on campus. Their language is not “If I go to college” but “When I go to ______ university...”
Living in a city where the social and political climate is constantly changing and often not in their best interest, my students are ready to speak for their communities and make a difference.
My Project
We made it to the half-way point. By this time many of my students have gone through their school supplies and are walking in asking for notebooks, pencils, and markers. Not to mention some of my students have already gone through my class library and are begging me for something else to read.
My students yearn for materials to further their education.
We recently began writing in cursive and they are so proud to learn how to write their own name. These supplies would help us to finish out the year strong.
We are also starting a unit on the Harlem Renaissance and the new book Finding Langston would be a wonderful way to approach the topic without having to stick to my old worn-out textbooks.
