This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am teaching in a first grade French class at a foreign language school. I don't speak French but that is the smallest obstacle that I am dealing with right now.
I just took over this class in week six of the school year. The previous teacher was transferred to a different school. I don't know what she was using in the class, but there aren't any materials. I have been scrambling, borrowing and begging to get through the first week. I have very few books, a little paper and a few pencils. The math manipulatives that I have in the room are missing pieces and broken. We don't have any crayons, rulers, scissors or glue. Everyday is struggle to make learning meaningful and exciting.
My students need math manipulatives, pencils, paper, crayons and construction paper. This first project will get my class started in the right direction for learning. The math maniplutives are desperately needed since we have no math books or other supplies and it is important, at this age, to experience math in a very physical way. The other items are basic things that every class needs but ours is lacking. These are great kids and they deserve to have a properly stocked classroom.
By helping my class you will make it possible for my class to have engaging learning experiences that I am struggling to provide without the right materials.
