Supplies to Encourage Engagement for Shared Reading and Book Clubs
My students need sticky notes and index cards in order feel like everyone has a chance to answer and ask a question or put forth an idea in the form of writing!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is a mosaic of cultures and ethnicities. My school does its best to engage all students by experimenting with innovative ways to address various learning styles. Our students have access to a plethora of after-school programs and technology in the form of laptops, iPads, and desktop computers.
My students especially enjoy the freedom with which they can research topics and words found in their independent reading books.
I hope to continue to nurture their natural curiosity and zest for learning.
My Project
We will be embarking on a Fantasy Reading and Writing unit of study. Sticky notes, folders, and index cards are helpful tools in this work.
Students love jotting notes on small bright pieces of paper for any reason!
The sticky notes will allow each student to have an inconspicuous way of admitting confusion or asking a question, and nurture one of our core values, curiosity. They will also enable my more shy students to share their thoughts in a comfortable way .
Students also love have something that is all their own, which I why I want to provide them with spiral-bound index cards. Students can keep track of new words and concepts as they read without having to flip through the pages of their notebooks.
