My students need vocabulary driven games for our "Word Game Day".They also need supplies for our end of the year project/presentation at the community multicultural night.
I teach a Remedial Reading class. When teaching needed skills, I go through a lot of self-bought materials to make things more engaging for all students. I like to do a lot of hands on activities that encourage students to become invested in the lessons. Most lessons involve creative projects.
Throughout the school year I teach 130 remedial readers in 7th and 8th grade.
I work in an urban district that works hard to provide students with materials they may not be able to buy for themselves at the beginning of (or throughout) the school year. My students often struggle with self-motivation. As such, I try to make sure that all of my lessons are engaging and tap into their own creativity. We are currently reading The Red Pyramid and students are looking forward to their final project with this book. I want to take their enthusiasm and make sure I provide a fun activity where they can showcase their confidence and knowledge.
My Project
I teach in an urban district that is sometimes unable to provide students with supplies that are available in other districts. As a result, teachers end up providing these items themselves. The materials I am requesting in this project will be used for 3 things:The majority of my request is to help students have the materials needed to complete their final project/presentation on the book The Red Pyramid. This will be an extensive project with a writing component, poster, and community presentation at our school's Multicultural Night. Students will be showcasing all that they have learned about Egypt while reading...and the skills that helped them understand. The board games are for the "Word Game Day" that we will have to show students that vocabulary can be built in a fun and relaxing way. The clipboards will be utilized in class as students read and complete study guides that reinforce comprehension. They will be in beanbags not at desks,so clipboards are needed.
The donations from this project will greatly help my students.
As remedial reading teenagers, it is often difficult to get them to invest in class. As such, I try to use as many hands on engaging activities as possible. When engagement increases, so does learning. I hope to use these supplies to hook students and help them enjoy my class, school, and reading itself. It will also help them to showcase all that they have learned through their final presentation.
