Thirteen years ago, I chose to teach in a low-income, high-poverty area. I believed it was my mission in life to love and teach students in poverty, and so my adventure began. Most of my students qualify for free and reduced lunches. They come from single-family homes where, much of the time, they are taking care of their younger siblings. Nevertheless, they come to school with a smile on their face and eager to learn. My students are amazing!
They are unique, witty, honest, loving, and just downright phenomenal.
They work hard for the simplest affirmations and the big high-five at the end of the class. I'd like to be able to have enough supplies in my classroom for them throughout the year.
My Project
Paint, colored pencils, markers, etc. will be essential tools for incorporating our new arts program in the upcoming year. Even having basic supplies such as pens, pencils, and erasers already available, creates a warm, welcoming environment for those students who do not have what they need.
I am committed to incorporating new art strategies that will transform my classroom, improve students' academic performance, and make the class an exciting place to learn!
I desire for my students to NOT be encumbered with educational materials and only to be concerned about what knowledge they can gain each and every day. Having these supplies available will provide a worry-free, engaging environment!
