Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in Texas, where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast. The majority of our students receive free or discounted lunch. Many of my students are English language learners, some are brand new to the country and learning our culture for the first time.
My students walk into my classroom every day excited in the environment that I offer them.
I work to ensure my classroom is a place students want to be. I do my best to offer everything they need to be successful in the classroom.
Our school participates in Backpack Buddies, which sends backpacks filled with food home on the weekend. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful and contributing members of society one day.
My Project
So far, we have survived a year of Harvey floods, ice and snow. These supplies will help ensure my students continue to be successful in a year that seems to be doing everything it can to hold us back.
Having the necessary supplies in class, supports the success of students.
I work to make sure my students always have everything they need, especially when they can't provide it themselves. Students need pencils to ensure they have the writing tools necessary to participate in class. Many of the items you will supply; markers, highlighters, paper and whiteout, will help students to keep, maintain, study and update their notebooks, which is their guide to everything they learn in class. Students also LOVE to use whiteboards or complete work on their desk in class but usually do not have their own markers to use. We go through A LOT of dry erase markers in class because the students are engaged when they are able to use them.
Having the items these students readily available for their use, gives them confidence because they don’t have to worry about whether or not they have what they need to be successful.
