As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I try to keep things simple, creative, and meaningful for their learning experiences.
My students are hard-working, creative, and clever.
Their love for reading at this age is essential for me to create as a teacher. From the minute they walk into my classroom I focus on their potential to grow as a reader while they are with me. Many of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch and are raised in a poverty area. I may not be in control of their home lives; however, I can certainly teach them how to love school and reading through their experience in my classroom.
My Project
Students have a hard time transitioning from first to second grade due to more responsibility being placed on them. They will be required to write down all their homework and keep an organized binder.
The materials that I am requesting will help students organize their binders in a way that will help foster school to home communications.
Students will be given heavy-duty folders to use as their homework and communication folders. The dividers will serve as a way to organize their important papers. The ink will help print papers to be sent home and take home books.
The main reason I am asking for these supplies is that my students come from a demographic background that is low-income and struggle to get the supplies on their own. This would take the pressure off of them and everyone would have the supplies necessary to be successful.
