My students need chart paper for writing during morning meeting and for anchor charts. Also, we are in need of new dry erase boards, pencils, replacement headphones, and post-its for editing work.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students

My students are precious and precocious kindergartners who come from many different types of backgrounds!
Our school district serves a large area that is comprised of both rural and suburban towns. Approximately 70% of students in my class qualify for free lunches and our school is classified as Title 1. These statistics do not hold us back!
The individual needs of my students are just as diverse as their backgrounds. Some children are emerging readers while others are still developing alphabet skills and phonics.
My Project
Kindergarten has changed in a big way in the past 20 years and so has instruction! Our students now do lots of writing and editing and teachers do lots of modeling writing and editing on a big chart.
Kindergarten is a time for serious learning!
Students need to see good writing all around them. With lots of whole group modeling, shared writing, and creating anchor charts, students learn all they need to know about good writing, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
With chart paper, pencils, and post-its, my students will be able to write and edit their writing in small group settings. The dry erase boards will be used during our Reading Horizons phonics routine as we learn to spell words. The headphones will be used in our iPad literacy center.
