My students need paper, crayons, colored pencils, a good sharpener, and oil pastels to help with the art projects in our room! We love to incorporate art into our classroom!
Do you remember what it was like to sit in a seat and listen to your teacher read you the story of the week? Then you would read it to a partner the next day. Finally, you would be assigned to answer questions on the story. Art is a great way to bring new material to life for students.
My students are a talented and exuberant group of 4th graders who love to learn and explore.
They love to get their hands dirty when learning a new subject. Unfortunately, the neighborhood that they live in does not provide them with many opportunities. From poverty to violence, the odds are stacked against them. However, they always come to school, on time, ready to engage and learn.
My Project
With these resources, the students will be able to create North West Native American Tribal masks with oil pastels that represent the tribes found in the area of the United States we live in. Using the colored pencils and brown paper bags, they will be able to create hand made journals much like the children on the Oregon Trail made. They will draw and label life size bodies with the twistable crayons that show the different body systems, their components, and how they function. The paper and the pencil sharpener will be used for two major purposes. They will be used primarily to write pen pal letters to our first grade buddy class but also to write thank you letters throughout the year. This encourages and teaches students that resources do not come out of thin air and that we need to share our knowledge and resources with others. It gives them a better understanding that being hands-on with thanking people is important and necessary.
This project is important because it will truly allow the students to have more hands-on, create activities that engage their minds in different ways.
Your donation will foster creativity and encourage new thinking in the minds of these students. We are so thankful for you and the support you will bring to our classroom.
