I'm a 4th grade teacher in a Title I school. I have been teaching for 23 years. I teach Math to three groups of 4th graders. I provide services to 68 students each day. Our district has recently restructured and closed a few schools resulting in overcrowding at my present school.
I teach at a Title I school in West Tennessee where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and free lunch.
I provide most of the school supplies for them to use in my class. The students come from low income families who can't afford their supplies. Many of my students participate in a backpack program that sends food home with them over the weekend. My students have a great deal of potential and I strive for them to be successful every day.
My Project
My students are very eager to learn. However, they don't have many of the basic supplies needed to be successful in school. Each morning I hear multiple times , "I need a pencil, Ms. Bond." I supply boxes of pencils each month for my students. Unfortunately, my supply has been depleted.
My students need sharpened pencils to enable them to "show what we know!" We need boxes of pencils and 2 electric pencils sharpeners to speed up the process of sharpening pencils in the morning to prepare for the day.
They also need durable folders to carry to their classes and then home to complete their homework assignments.
My students need to focus on learning important skills instead of being disappointed about not having the supplies needed to be successful in school. Students must have sharpened pencils to practice standard math algorithms. Please help make this possible for our class.
