My students attend a unique elementary school in rural, Amish Country, Ohio. We are one of the few districts in the area that still house kindergarten-sixth graders in one building while having multiple elementary buildings. The majority of our students are English Language Learners who come to school with their primary language being Pennsylvania Dutch.
Communication and language are a very important part of our school day and the children's use of English is vital for all subject areas.
Our classroom is everyone's second family, working together to support each other as learners and friends. It is so exciting to see the kids come together to learn new and exciting things and be life long friends in the process. Elementary school is a wonderful place to be.
My Project
Part of every day life is the ability to stay organized. This project will help my students learn to do that. We will be able to keep our writing organized in a variety of ways. We will use the paper organizer to keep our various writing papers separate and neat. We will keep our writing folders organized through the use of a date stamp. The Lucy Caulkins writing program that we use encourages dating all writing samples. What better way than students using a stamp.
The classroom supplies in the project will be used to enhance students learning while teaching them organization skills.
In addition to supplying our writing program with two important supplies. This project will also help our classroom technology. It will supply a one to one set of mini computer mice. My students love using a computer mouse instead of the track pad and at this young age it makes accessing technology easier.
This project will also supply the classroom with sheet protectors and laminating sheet which will be used to create classroom games and station activities for everyday student use. This activities will then be organized and stored neatly in the Photo Cases.
