My students need pencils, dry erase markers, construction, lined, and copy paper social studies, reading comprehension and math interactive guides, glue, and tape.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a child I remember attending a school where resources were abundant, and if you needed a pencil it was there. Unfortunately, where I teach materials are hard to come by, and many of my students lack the basic supplies needed to get through the day.
I teach a class of 27 wonderful 5th grade students who are incredibly motivated and eager to learn!
We are a low income, Title 1 charter school in Detroit Michigan in need of school supplies. Over 85% of my school receives free and reduced lunch. My students are extremely self-motivated, driven, and do the best with what they've got. These materials will foster my students learning and growth in all core subject areas. Our school and parents do their best to make sure their students/children get the best education they can, but with a lack of money and supplies from both ends we need your help!
My Project
For years we have been using an outdated studies curriculum. Many of my students are not reading and comprehending at grade level, which makes reading the book difficult. It provides little hands-on experience and lacks reproducibles and manipulatives. My students also will benefit from daily comprehension practice. Additionally, students should be coming into 5th grade knowing their basic multiplication and division facts. Unfortunately, many students at my school struggle with these basic facts. Providing them with hands on games and manipulatives will help foster their learning.
I have purchased a set of 32 dry-erase boards for the students to use during math and centers, however to continually buy enough markers for my students to use these wonderful boards adds up. These boards are extremely useful during math, especially for my visual learners who need to draw pictures of their math problems. We would also benefit from basic supplies to complete daily projects and tasks.
Basic school supplies for my students are extremely hard to come by.
We lack, pencils, construction paper, glue, tape, staples, line paper, and copy papers which are all necessary to complete daily assignments. This donation will allow my students to continually succeed and improve academically.
