My students need glue sticks to complete the many hands-on projects throughout the year. When working on projects, things also get messy! So the baby wipes are excellent to clean and sanitize student desks.
Understanding history is about making learning engaging. applicable to today's daily life, and, most importantly, hands-on! That's why my history class is project- and activity-based. I teach five classes of seventh grade history in a suburban public school. All seventh graders are homogeneously grouped, so my classes include students of various ability levels and socio-economic backgrounds. All seventh grade special education students are also mainstreamed into my classes.
In this digital age, I think it's important for students to not only complete technology-based activities, but also to engage in traditional, hands-on crafts and projects.
From what I've seen in my 18 years of teaching, I've realized that my students truly love hands-on learning. Students enjoy coming to class to complete a new project each day. They eagerly enter my classroom and ask "what are we going to to do today?".
My Project
Students learn best through doing, and that is why I include so many hands-on projects in my seventh grade history classroom. Some examples of activities and projects that students have enjoyed include an artifact and archaeology timeline, a process of irrigation layered book, a foldable of the causes of the fall of the Roman Empire, a Jewish synagogue diorama book, an architecturally accurate Greek folding temple, a lap book about the religions and empires of ancient India, and an ancient Egyptian tomb display. In order to complete these activities and others, students use and go through a lot of glue sticks, which is why I'm requesting them. In addition, in a project-centered classroom, things also get messy (in a good way!). The baby wipes will not only help students to clean up but will also sanitize student work areas. I hope that you'll consider helping to fund my project. Students get excited about history when they demonstrate their learning by creating something they can be proud of!
