My class is made up of a wonderful group of students who come to school with bright smiles and positive attitudes. Since very few attended kindergarten before coming to my class, we have a lot of ground to cover. Most of my students are learning English as a second language, making their first year in school a little more challenging. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and Second Harvest Food Bank comes to our school each month to bring healthy fruits and vegetables to them.
My Project
We would really like magnetic letters and colored bins for our workshop time.
The magnetic letters will be used every day to make words, especially our high-frequency words.
We need lots of letters because we use them at our centers and when the students come and work with me. We do something called "Mix and fix." This is when the students get the desired letters to make a word. They mix up the letters and then make the word all by themselves. It really helps them remember how to spell the words in a hands-on and interactive way.
We also need colored bins. Each group is a certain color. I will put materials for each group in their bin so they will know what they are supposed to do. It will make it very easy for them to get the materials they are supposed to have.
This would be so nice to have these materials to make things run smoothly in our classroom. Any amount will help. Thank you!
