This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from the North Philly area and are mostly Black students and low income. They are curious, but are apprehensive about math and science learning and instruction. My students are energetic, strong, possess multiple intelligences. Some goals for these students are: understanding ways of incorrect thinking, understanding a little about how the brain learns, creating a loving and cooperative environment, developing confidence in their math and science skills, and learning how they already do math and science in their everyday lives to survive.
My Project
With fresh supplies for the second half of the school year, my students will be able to focus on their education as they will have the supplies needed for optimal success. Loose leaf paper will be used for do nows, solving math equations and engaging in science inquiry. Printer paper is an everyday necessity and is like "gold" in my school district. Students will benefit from their teacher not having to worry about conserving paper, and instead focusing on printing out materials necessary for academic success and rigor. Wooden rules are more durable and will allow students to measure consistently and concisely, as well as work neatly.
