This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first grade students are inquisitive and vibrant learners within an urban, high poverty school district. Our school collaborates, empowers, and pushes our students to do their very best.
Despite challenges my students face, each student tries their best to achieve academically and social emotionally.
From the moment students step into the classroom, they are greeted at the door, are engaged in their learning, and work hard across all subject areas. We work on having a growth mindset to push past barriers and achieve - never giving up.
My Project
Students will use these science supplies to engage in science lesson activities. First graders love hands on learning, and getting to actually use the scientific tools we learn about. The science picture books provide valuable learning content for read-alouds and individual student reading. In first grade, we get to learn about the weather, plants and animals, light, sound, and magnets. As an international baccalaureate school. lessons are built around student inquiry to explore these scientific topics.
First grade scientists need these supplies to complete experiments and engage fully in the inquiry based lessons.
Hands on learning experiences are exactly what my clever, imaginative first graders need to succeed. As soon as these science supplies are used in instruction, students are instantly hooked, and ready to learn. These tools will be used immediately by my students this year, and for years to come.
