Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our room is a classroom for students with moderate to severe disabilities and although it's a wide range of abilities, they're able to learn and have fun! All of the students are working on daily living and vocational skills so that they are able to live as independently as possible. They enjoy taking walks around the neighborhood, cooking up new recipes and exploring the world through multi sensory activities.
It's not the diagnosis that makes these students special; it's their heart and personality that really makes them special.
Everyday my students make gains toward being more independent and I love celebrating every milestone.
My Project
Transitions can be tough for anyone and it can be especially tough for my students. Various timers will help the students transition easier between activities and to the buses.
Having a shelf and coat rack to put their belongings will also help foster independent daily living skills for our students and be the consistency they need for a big transition like coming to and leaving school.
A functional cubby shelf will help the students identify where to put and retrieve their backpacks.
Furthermore, when it is raining, umbrellas will help keep our students dry during busing times. Please help support our class get the supplies we need to start and end our day on the right foot. Many thanks!
