Help me give my students journals for their morning work, pencils, markers, and a math skill board to continue their year with the basic tools for success!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My second grade students have returned to a school year that’s different than any they’ve ever experienced. They are fully masked and behind shields all day to keep them as safe as possible! My class started kindergarten in 2019 full of excitement, only to get spend the second half of that year and all of their first grade year at home. With COVID affecting their home and school lives, some of my students were ill prepared (supply wise) to return to school after a year of remote learning.
We are located in the far southern suburbs of Chicago.
Our school has a free or reduced lunch rate of eighty-two percent, and consists of African-American and Hispanic students.
My Project
The pencils and markers are used for all of their subjects, especially math, writing and reading! Their math curriculum relies heavily on the use of counters, 10 frames, number lines and other tools. The math board will put all of those resources in one place! The journals would be used for their morning seat work. Their seat work consists of 5 daily problems to help them review grammar and math skills previously learned.
With COVID numbers still on the rise, my students are not allowed to share materials, so these supplies will enable everyone to learn without disruption.
