Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an urban, low-income community school with over 500 students. Many of our students come from high poverty homes. Students come from many diverse backgrounds and include a large amount of English as a second language students.
We are a Title I school, and all of our students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch.
Despite the challenges they face outside of school, students come to our school excited to learn. They need the tools that will help them reach their goals.
As an educator, I focus on creating a community in my classroom where students feel safe, secure, and motivated to learn.
My Project
All of the basic classroom supplies that are being requested will be used daily in all academic areas. I currently have an interactive classroom where in order to increase student engagement all students are involved. Students are constantly using their whiteboard markers to answer questions or show their thinking. These white board markers that we need more of will allow students to be held accountable and involved during whole group lessons.
Constantly, keeping our level of learning interactive shows positive results.
Even though we use whiteboard markers daily, we equally use scissors when creating projects. Students also love using astrobright paper. This not only helps our students when displaying their projects, but it also helps provide colorful interactive station activities in Math class.
