Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our inner-city school is in a high poverty, low-income level area with 100% of the students eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The student population is over 80% Hispanic. Most of the students do not have funds for school supplies as any income they make at their jobs, helps put food into their homes.
My students deserve the best education that I can provide for them; this includes providing the supplies we need in our classroom.
Since this classroom is a computer lab, there are some supplies that are needed that may not be needed in a core classroom.
My Project
Many of my students work to help maintain households. They along with their parents work long hours just to keep a home, clothing and food in their cabinets. Though they may contribute pencils and notebook paper, the supplies needed for technology classes are somewhat different than supplies needed in other classes and those supplies are not on supply lists provided at community stores and can be expensive.
Students need computer time but they also need to learn to take notes, how to create study guides and how to work on teams to achieve the required results.
The chart paper, copy paper, markers, other supplies will help my students become contributing team members and build skills that will make them successful employees.
