Help me give my students a wobble chair, it will help students in different classes who need movement to help them focus. Other materials in my project are games to help build fluency as well as classroom supplies.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 6 classes of 6th-grade math. Many of my students enjoy coming to school because it is a safe place for them to learn and socialize with their friends. My 6th graders have a wide range of abilities and many struggle in their classes because of a lack of resources, large class sizes, and distractions that they bring from home.
The community in which I teach is very diverse and many students come from low-income households.
There are students from over 47 countries in my school and they speak various different languages. The differences in cultures, languages, and abilites are embraced and celebrated within our building. The students that I get to teach are very unique and I learn a lot from them.
My Project
Many of my students struggle with basic skills necessary for their success in 6th grade math. The games, such as Smath, Numeracy, Fraction Dominoes, and Fractions and Decimals Folder Games will help my struggling learners improve those basic skills such as finding and comparing fractions, multiplication facts, numeric expressions, and coordinate graphing.
A Pre-teen Active Chair will help specific students focus during math lessons.
Those students will be more successful when they can fidget while working. Privacy screens will help students focus during independent work.
Classroom supplies will help with daily routines and activities. A laminator will help me create activities that can be used repeatedly to help build skills. Dry erase markers will be used with our small whiteboards for kids to participate in whole group activities.
