Our classroom is a fun, fast paced, math class! We are always busy working whole group, independently and in small groups. I constantly use formative assessments to assess my students so that I may help those not grasping a concept.
My 50 mathematicians attend their neighborhood public school in Louisiana.
Many of them are from military families. They have diverse learning styles and abilities, including children with special needs.
My goal is to show them that math is fun and exciting!
My Project
Students have small white boards in which they solve equations. These tools are a quick way for me to assess student progress and remediate as needed. I can quickly assess progress and differentiate as needed. Expo markers are neat learning tools (especially in math) because students can quickly erase and start again as needed. On top of that, they are fun for the kids to use. They have their personal white boards and during most inside recess time, I will see a few of them huddled around a white board pretending to teach a lesson we have just learned.
A pencil sharpener may seem trivial to you, but it is very necessary in our classroom.
Our electric pencil sharpener died. All 50 students are trying to use our manual pencil sharpener. The lid constantly falls off and pencil shavings are everywhere!
Do I need to explain the need for pencils? Of course, we use these constantly during the school day.
We often take for granted the smallest things in the classroom and how much they truly impact students ability to learn in a productive, uninterrupted manner. Thank you for taking the time to look at our project!
