Mr. Mrozek from Chicago IL is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need new markers and erasers, and I need supplies to keep my classroom a clean, productive and well-resourced center for learning. My students also need organizational supplies like binders and dividers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th grade math students who are eager for extra tools to help them explore the math they are learning. They are all high achievers taking on a big challenge of attending our school - for the 7th and 8th graders with the extra challenge of accelerating through 3 levels of math in just 2 years.
My students have all the ability in the world, and I want to give them every tool possible to unleash that potential.
Though they all possess such high capability, they come to my class with a wide variety of prior experiences relating to math and math class. Some of those experiences have produced confident, challenge-seeking students but have covered my students' capabilities in a dangerous mixture of doubt, anxiety, and sometimes even shame.
My goal, as their math teacher, is to see each student as the complex combination of abilities, knowledge and experiences he/she is and to give them one big skill: to understand the problems and challenges facing them, to identify the tools and information they have, and to effectively select the strategies they have mastered to find the solutions they need.
I have been very lucky to receive supplies for my classroom to help my students learn and grow, but those supplies are running out!
My students are working hard and burning through our supplies: they need new markers, erasers and board cleaner to keep the great resources of our white boards useful and well-kept; and they also need help keeping themselves organized, so binders and dividers will make a huge difference for some students.
To keep the resources and supplies organized, a shelving unit will make my shelf-less closet actually useful, and big Expo markers, pens and pencils will help me support my students through grading and teaching.
