This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students work really hard to be the best people they can be.
In my small groups and individual sessions, students have the opportunity to learn and practice skills that they will always be able to use.
Through hands-on activities, students learn how to be good friends to one another and how to be good students and citizens. As a school social worker, I work with students of all ages in an urban, low-income school district; our students and staff members work hard to ensure that lots of learning is happening in our buildings. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to teach students the skills they will need to know in order to become successful adults one day. I love how hard my students work to improve themselves and learn appropriate coping and social skills. We always have fun and learn so much. Students with better social-emotional skills perform better academically.
My Project
In order to improve their social-emotional skills, the students create many projects and often use art as a way to express their feelings. The donated supplies will ensure that we have the resources to learn about our friendships and feelings in a fun way.
The art supplies (crayons, glue sticks, and construction paper) and folders will help students create projects that they can be really proud of.
The folders will help them keep track of all that they have accomplished and will allow them to stay organized. The students will be so proud of their portfolios at the end of the year, when they will be able to look back through their folders and see how far they have come.
