Kindergarten is so much fun. Our students learn in many different ways using all of our senses and multiple intelligences. We use a wide range of techniques to help all the students succeed no matter what their level. Our students attend a Title I school. Most of the students come from families of low socioeconomic status, with over 70% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in our state. Our school is a caring community of successful learners, which can be seen through collaborative, student project-based learning in and out of the classroom. Kindergartners in our classes love to work with hands-on materials and have many different opportunities to practice a skill before it is mastered.
My Project
As this school year comes to an end, I am already looking forward to September, and reflect on the supplies that my classroom will need for the upcoming year. I have been going through my classroom and thinking about what students used and needed the most. Due to financial situations, parents aren't able to send in the necessary supplies their children need. Unfortunately, students are unable to get their work done without these materials. I want to start the school year off with the necessary supplies and materials. My students need basic classroom materials such as crayons, markers, glue, and laminating sheets. These materials will be used throughout the year to organize the room and make charts for writing, reading and math lessons. We will be using the pencils and pens to jot down the interesting information we find while reading our books and during writing time, learning how to write narrative, opinion and information texts! With so many ideas there could never be enough paper or pens! The laminator sheets will aid in keeping charts looking fresh and readily available so learning time isn't wasted. The students will use dry erase markers to engage in mathematics and English language arts to practice numbers, equations, sentences, words, and letters. These small everyday items will make a big difference in their daily lives.
Every student can and will learn if given the opportunity to do so.
Please join me in giving these students the opportunity to experience the pure joy of kindergarten!
