I teach second grade at a school that is approximately 96% free and reduced lunch.
During the summer and at the beginning of the school year, we send home a list of supplies that are pertinent to the activities we do in class. The majority of our students come from poor economic backgrounds, and their families can't afford the basic school supplies.
With the funding for education diminishing, it has become the classroom teacher's responsibility to provide supplies for the students. As much as I don't mind spending my own money on providing such supplies, it gets quite costly when buying 25-30 of everything, then having to replace the items when lost, damaged or run out.
I am asking for basic classroom supplies for students that are unable to bring their own. These include pencils, crayons, notebook paper, erasers, notebooks and pencil pouches.
