Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Cassie, along with the rest of the Student Council, want to bring school spirit to our school. For a long time, our school has had a bad reputation, and Student Council wants that to change. The students have decided to beautify our school campus with positive messages.
Student Council wants everyone to feel safe and welcome at our school. The students came up with the idea of school beautification, and ran with it! They spend many hours during Student Council developing posters, and making sure everything in the hallways have a positive message.
Students will learn responsibility through this project. As the Student Council adviser, I try and guide them, while leaving most of the major decisions up to them. I want them to take ownership of their school, and by beautifying it, we can begin that process.
In Their Own Words
I am trying to get good art supplies for Student Council. We come from a high poverty neighborhood and it shows in our school. We are grateful for the supplies that we have, however, they are very basic. We do not really have anything that can show what we are about and how much we can do. My goal is to give the Student Council members the supplies they need to make this school shine.
To make this project happen, I will hold a school beautification day, where the students will be able to see the changes being made and will be able to submit ideas of change. I will have a meeting with my fellow Student Council members and we will pick some of the best ideas and organize and plan to make the student ideas come to life.
I have been a student at our school for six years. I have seen it at it's worst and best days. I feel that some of the people who visit our school come with very biased expectations and if we can show the bright ideas of our students, we won't be judged so harshly. I want people to come to my school and see the amazing place that I see.
