This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our academy services a primarily African American population. 100% of our students come from low-income areas and receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch. We serve our students in a neighborhood of Milwaukee, and because our students are bused to school, we serve students from all the Milwaukee zip codes. This makes us what is called a "city wide school" and allows us the privileged of servicing all of Milwaukee children.
Our students deserve the best supplies to have the best education.
Previously a failing school, we are working hard, as students and staff, to make our school THE place to get a 21st century education. The biggest part of this plan? Supplies! Quality supplies allow us to focus on learning and not worry about not having enough to do the days activities.
My Project
My project focuses on replacing old supplies with new, quality things we need in our classroom. From headphones to storage containers, anyone who has been in a classroom realizes how important these things are. Our school uses a lot of technology based curriculum and headphones allow for privacy and focus. Storage containers allow for scholars to easily access their supplies and put things away at the end of the day.
Supplies are the difference between good and great!
The paper listed will be used for everything from morning work, to class work, to homework. Did you know that an average classroom can go through hundreds of sheets of paper a month? In lower grades, projects and hands-on learning means we use even more! The organizational bins will allow me to sort my students into color groups and keep supplies easy to find and easy to organize for young learners. It also helps instill a sense of ownership and responsibility for your groups' supplies and belongings. Headphones allow us to utilize our technology based learning while still respecting the other students around us.
