My students need supplies for the school to complete assignments, highlighters for homework, notebooks for notes and binders to keep themselves organized.
Being a counselor at a community high school in Indianapolis, Indiana, I work with students who live and attend school in a low-income/high poverty area.
My students are hard working, creative, and have a wonderful sense of humor.
The sense of community the students embody is largely due to the community around the school supporting them as much as possible. Being in a low socioeconomic area of the city, the community does its best to support our scholars; however, there are always needs to be met and help needed. These scholars are bright students, with a bright future ahead of them and as their counselor, I intend to help every one of them reach their full potential I know they are capable of.
My Project
My scholars are in need of basic supplies for school. I have had specific scholars come and ask for these supplies to keep themselves organized throughout the day and when they go home to complete their homework. The scholars are in need of binders to keep their assignments organized, highlighters for their homework, pens for class, and white out for when they make a mistake.
My scholars came to me specifically to get help with their school supplies because they are falling behind in their class.
I got to speak to them about what would be helpful in staying on top of their class and being organized. We identified these materials as materials they could use to be successful. My scholars are more than capable of being successful in the classroom and at home, they just need the basic supplies to be able to do so.
