I teach 7 Second and Third Grade students in a self-contained Special Education classroom within a Chicago Public Elementary School. Many of my students have Autism while others have other disabilities, such as Developmental Delays and Cognitive Disabilities. Because of their disabilities, many of my students experience sensory, behavioral, and communication difficulties. For that reason, my instruction is extremely differentiated and individualized to the needs of each student.
Each of my students love to engage in hands-on learning activities.
They come to class each day with smiles on their faces and always try their hardest. Because of their motivation, I am inspired every day to be the best teacher I can be and provide them with with the best materials available.
My Project
I am collecting donations for my classroom to purchase basic classroom supplies such as tape, construction paper, printer ink, dry erase boards, and more. These basic supplies will provide my students with tools and resources to expand their learning in all subject areas.
In addition, I would like to purchase a few hands-on Math activity boxes.
I have students performing at various levels in Math, and these differentiated activities would help me meet all of their needs in a much more fun way than a simple paper and pencil worksheet. Finally, I am purchasing more sensory materials. Because many of my students have Autism, sensory materials are a must to keep them engaged in our classroom activities.
