Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a diverse student population from all over Boston. All of my students are on Individualized Education Plans and receive special education services. These high school students are amazing, hard-working people who commute nearly an hour every day to get here. Most of my students qualify for free lunches and are students of color.
All of my students want to succeed.
They have a range of strengths and learning needs, but they all deserve an appropriate education which is fun and engaging.
My Project
The students in my class feel comfortable and happy. We have created an environment where students know they are cared for at school. I have found that little gestures, like offering a granola bar or always having an extra marker, go a long way to make kids want to come to school.
We use whiteboard markers A LOT.
We learn together by writing on the board, or using individual whiteboards. Many students also have laminated binders to help them with different tasks. All of these different activities add up to a lot of white-board markers, and a lot of cleaning up. The requested whiteboard spray and markers will ensure that learning can continue in our class.
Lastly, students can't focus if they are sick or hungry. Hand sanitizing products help us to keep ourselves healthy and happy. They also help us practice positive independent living skills and pre-vocational skills.
