Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is a family that consists of thirty-eight eager-to-learn kindergarten students in a Title I school in Houston, Texas where all of the students receive free lunch.
The majority of my students come from single-parent households where they struggle to make ends meet, but despite their difficulties, they always come into our classroom with smiles, eager to learn.
I want to provide my students with unique learning experiences in and out of our classroom that they can carry through life.
Many of my students and their families were affected by Hurricane Harvey and I am trying to make them feel welcomed and secure in my classroom. I also want them to feel like their world is going back to normal after such a tragic event.
My Project
My students need white dry erase boards to use in our everyday whole group instruction and during small group.
For my students the opportunity to have their own white board gives them ownership as they working and it also boost their self esteem.
My students use dry erase boards everyday to practice daily math skills such as solving a problem, representing a number, and comparing numbers. The boards also provide me the opportunity for to check for understanding during a lesson.
The magnetic sheets and colorful paper clips will be utilized as a an individual tracker. I plan to track our math objectives and the students will earn a paper clip next to their picture as they master the objective. The magnetic circles will be used to hang the students awesome work on the magnetic board.
