My students are highly motivated 10th and 11th graders in a specialized high school in New York City. They come from all economic backgrounds. Each with his or her own quirks, they try very hard to learn and see the world from different perspectives. Some of my students travel overtwo hours to get to the school. Hardworking and caring, they are an amazing bunch who has big dreams and high hopes!
Creative, engaging, and open-minded, these kids are our dreams and hopes for the future.
I teach a highly motivated group of students. I believe they are the next shakers and movers of this world. They try so hard to understand and solve problems in the world around them; it's amazing and an honor to see them work so hard and reach so far.
My Project
These materials will provide an open canvas for student creativity and student driven designs. In order to make classrooms work, I need materials that allow them to collaborate strategically and think and design. Good old fashion talk and draw to allow free flow of thoughts are the foundation of creativity.
I hope to inspire kids to think 'beyond the box' to solve societal problems through inventive engineering.
They will brainstorm, create, recreate, prototype, and most importantly... they will dream. More specifically, these materials will be used to help them organize their design thinking around a societal challenge of their choice. These materials will aide their everyday work in reverse design and first principles. For example, we would learn about sustainability involving water resources and students would use the resources to design water filters based on research of current ones available. We hope to translate their drawings into actual prototypes later on.
I hope to connect their everyday realities to learning skills that translate into action for the communities they live in and let them understand that they, too, can be agents of change.
