My Students
My goal is to inspire scientific curiosity in my students. These tools display neat and interesting mechanisms and can facilitate question development by many students who see them. I believe that every student is capable of learning and excelling; they just need someone to light the spark.
My school is a Title I school with a large percentage of my students coming from underserved neighborhoods.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to provide my students with the necessary tools to change their current living situations and to excel in life outside of my classroom.
My Project
This is my first year teaching IPC with students receiving In Class Support through the Special Education department. I have recently learned that some of the behavior issues that I am facing aren't due to a lack of effort but a lack of supplies. I want to bridge this gap by ensuring that my students have everything they need, from snacks to curb their hunger so that they are able to focus, to writing utensils so they won't have to share with their classmates. Students often will use a separate sheet of paper to do their work or test corrections and the staplers will help them ensure that the papers do not get lost. The broom is to help sweep up any broken glassware in lab so that students and teachers won't cut themselves trying to clean it up. Students use sticky notes as an interruption free way to ask questions and receive feedback. The highlighters are to help my students with dyslexia and other literacy issues take notes while reading articles and the pens are so that they can receive feedback in a more stress free way. Please help me give my students the tools that they need to restore their self esteem as learners and to increase class engagement.
