My students are middle schoolers at a K-8 school in Redwood City. They are creative, hard-working and come from all walks of life. They love learning and their enthusiasm for education is inspiring to see. Since my students are becoming teenagers it is really exciting to see how they embrace their individuality, but also how they are fearless in the face of adversity. They want to stand up for what they believe in, they want to have their voices heard against racism, sexism and prejudice and they want to make a difference. Please help them recognize the power they have to lead this next generation!
My Project
My students are in their first year of middle school. This is an exciting time, but it's also a time where there is a real learning curve about independent work habits. Students are forced to keep track of their supplies moving from class to class, put things back in the proper place, remember to turn things in, and to come prepared for class with supplies every day. I want to set my students up to learn these habits successfully.
“You cannot teach a person anything; you can only help him find it within himself.” – Galileo
By having basic supplies in class like a pencil sharpener, art supplies for projects and cleaning supplies the students will know that the supplies are there - they just need to make sure they get and use them. It allows them to understand they are in charge of their learning, and they need to be ready each time they walk through the door. They need to take responsibility!
