Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the blessed teacher to an awesome bunch of three dozen fifth graders. One thing I love about teaching fifth grade is that I get the opportunity to make their last year of elementary school one to remember. I teach at one of the best schools in Las Vegas! It is located in a very high-needs neighborhood, but that is what makes my job so rewarding. The atmosphere at my school is so positive and exciting, which makes our students truly love coming to school.
Everyone who has come into my classroom has commented on how much they notice my students enjoy learning.
Each group of fifth graders that I have had so far has stood out to me for different reasons. I have grown a special bond with all three of the classes that I have had, and at the end of each year my students might leave but they stay in my heart forever. This year, the majority of my students come from low-income households. While my students may face many obstacles in their home lives, they do not let that stop them from wanting to learn more and become successful.
My Project
I teach in a very high-needs school in east Las Vegas. Most of my students come from low-income households. Most of the supplies they have and use are ones that I have provided them with. Each day, we consistently use anchor chart pads, highlighters, dry erase markers, pencils, and do not forget, printer paper for our copies! All of these materials help me teach my eager fifth-graders in many different ways. Because I have to provide so many supplies out of my own pocket, this project will help me ensure they have everything they need before they move on to middle school.
