Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school has a few instruments but my students can't remain in band and orchestra without bows and mouthpieces. These few accessories are vital for these wonderful students to keep performing in band and orchestra!
My students are intercity, low income, single parent kids who need this program to keep them in school.
The school is a 7th thru 12th grade school with very few extra curriculum activities. Most of my students don't always "fit in" but in band and orchestra they have a safe and creative place where everyone is made to feel at home.
My Project
With these bows and mouthpieces my students will actively participate in orchestra, concert band, jazz band, and the pep-band, which performs at all the home basketball and football games. These groups perform music from holiday music to the classics. They perform for not only school functions but also community events outside of school which gives the students community service hours, which is a graduation requirement!
