Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a Title I school where all students receive free breakfast, lunch, and many dinner, based on their families’ income. Although we are considered a high poverty school, we are also a high academic performing school. This is due in large part to the hard work of students, teachers, parents, and staff. In order to continue on this path to success, both students and teachers need the supplies essential to do so.

This being said, asking parents to donate items is not always feasible, so teachers rely on using their own money, or using what the school has to offer to fill classes with necessary and extracurricular materials.

Unfortunately, with budget cuts each year, money has to be spread thinly and we don’t always have the supplies needed.

This is where generous people like you can help. Any donation, big or small, can make a difference in a classroom like mine. Both my students and myself thank you in advance for your contribution to education.

My Project

A new school year is fast approaching and awaiting me will be 25 energetic students ready to be taught. I would like to start the year off right by having the supplies needed to learn and be organized. Unfortunately, the materials I am requesting do not always fit into the school’s budget

Many of these students are on track to becoming first generation college students and I would like to help them get a strong start on that path.

Teaching students to be organized is a foundational skill that I feel is not only needed for success in school, but for life in general. The supplies I am requesting will help students learn to start being organized by using folders and notebooks for different subjects. This will eliminate, or at least reduce, the “I can’t find my paper” dilemma that I hear so often. Nothing is worse than having worked so hard on an assignment and then not being able to find it, or even worse, have it be wrinkled and torn because it was stuffed inside the desk.

The crayons, markers, and glue sticks will help with daily activities in almost every subject. Sometimes paper and pencil just are not enough and students need a little creativity to get the concept to stick in their heads.

We, as teachers, are here to guide and teach our students, but we need the correct tools in order to be able to do so to the best of our abilities. This project will not only help my students, but also their parents, who may not be able to afford these supplies on their own. Any donation big or small would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!
