The majority of my students come from low-income households. Many receive little to no help from parents for school supplies or moral support for school work. I have two classes of freshmen, each with about 25 students, at the College Preparation level. Almost all of my students fall into the category of low-income.
Without help from generous donors, my students may be severely lacking in terms of supplies needed for school.
My students need access to literature outside of their textbooks.
My Project
I am a first-year teacher who currently does not have her own room. Next year, I will be getting my own classroom, but I lack necessary supplies for my classroom to run smoothly.
The supplies in this project with help ease the transition into a new classroom and simply make my life easier.
I included paper and binder clips to hold handouts and graded work, binders to hold my teaching units together, a desk calendar to help keep organized, and sharpies and colored paper for miscellaneous art projects that will help motivate students to succeed in class. I also included post-it notes, white out, staples, and tape refills because they are staples necessary for grading and general operations during the school day. All of these items are necessary for English class because we write a lot of papers that require these items for editing and proofreading purposes.
