Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a high-poverty and high-risk community. Many of them speak English as a second language and speak Spanish, Hindi or another language at home. Their families are from all over the globe: Hawaii, Fiji, Mexico, El Salvador, Samoa, Tonga and many other countries and states. They are proud of their heritage.
The families at our school are incredibly supportive, but do not have the funds to provide all the needed supplies for our classroom.
Many students and their families are homeless or cannot afford to live in their own apartment, so they share with another family.
My Project
My project will help me give my students the supplies they need to be successful in reading, writing, math, and beyond. Many of my students come to school excited to learn, but without the supplies they need to complete our daily classwork. Getting these supplies will allow me to provide them (and their families) with the things we need to focus on our classwork. It will be a relief for my students to know that we'll have enough pencils and even tissues to complete the year. Their families will be grateful to know their children will have everything they need at school.
